Sherlock HolmesThe Baskerville Dining Experience

The year is 1900. Eerie noises, which some folk believe to be the baying of a hound, are causing unease within the Parish. So Lady Frankland of Lafter Hall, near Princetown on Dartmoor, has invited Mr Sherlock Holmes to investigate.

The Baskerville Dining Experience offers a unique opportunity for guests to partake of a light-hearted and most unusual Victorian evening of exquisite cuisine, drama, entertainment – and even terror – as the Hound of the Baskervilles once again prowls Dartmoor in search of its next victim.

-  Expect the Unexpected

The evening begins with an atmospheric Horse and Carriage ride (weather permitting) along the moorland track which leads to Laughter Hole House (Lafter Hall in the book). Isolated and remote, the house is situated in the very heart of the moor just three miles from the imposing Dartmoor Prison and the treacherous Grimpen Mire.

Tilly the Maid, Mrs Hudson and Perkins the ButlerPerkins the Butler and Tilly the Maid serve a sumptuous five-course Victorian dinner prepared from quality local ingredients and accompanied by fine wines. Mr Holmes has brought his housekeeper, Mrs Hudson, from 221B Baker Street to Devonshire to cook, as kitchen staff are difficult to find on the moor. Dr Watson will have to fend for himself whilst Mrs Hudson is away!

-  Solve the Mystery

Perkins knows more than he is saying. Tilly is nervous to the point of hysterics. The Hound howls ever closer... and the game is on!

But... can the mystery be solved by the guests before Mr Holmes steps in with the solution?

-  Footnote

In 1893 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle killed off Sherlock Holmes in his novel The Adventure of the Final Problem at the hands of arch enemy Professor Moriarty. This was intended to be the very last Sherlock Holmes novel. However, in the year 1900 Sir Arthur was pressurised by the reading public to resurrect his famous detective and explored Dartmoor with his friend Bertram Fletcher Robinson in search of haunting locations for his next and most famous novel The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Testimonials

"Many thanks for an absolutely fabulous evening! Two weeks after the event we are still buzzing about the night where we met the truly remarkable Sherlock Holmes, the irrepressible Perkins twins, the saucy Tilly and, of course, the captivating (although devious) Lady Frankland. Mrs Hudson's cooking was a delight."

Pam Emerson, August 2007

"Literary heritage is one of the hugely undervalued aspects of the tourism scene in the Westcountry and the Baskerville Dining Experience goes a long way towards redressing the balance."

Devon Life Magazine, April 2007

"I've been to a lot of "do's" of one sort or another, but nothing quite like this... great!"

Ros Chilcot, 2006
